Overview of the Post 16 Tuition Fund
The Department of Education announced a small amount of funding to support students whose learning was disrupted as a result of the COVID pandemic. This 16-19 Tuition Fund is available to all 16 to 19 providers who applied and is ring-fenced for 16 to 19 small group tuition and tutoring.
The funding can be used to support small group tuition for 16 to 19 students where their English and Maths grades were grade 4 or 5 in English and/or maths, and other courses where learning has been disrupted.
Selection of Students
The guidance indicates that the supported students must be on a 16 to 19 study programme and who have not achieved grade 5 or above in GCSE maths and/or English by age 16. All will be on a 16 to 19 study programme. The subjects covered in the tuition will not be limited to English and maths but will be identified according to need and existing programmes.
These include:
- Students that have yet to achieve a grade 4 in English or Maths
- Students that have yet to achieve their grade 5 in Maths and English who require it for their next step
- Priority for tuition will be afforded to the most disadvantaged students based on their socio-economic background, SEND status and volume of disruption to their learning through COVID-19.
How will Norton College use the funding?
The identified students will have additional support within small tuition groups, and these will be as an addition to the planned programme hours.
Examples of some of the tuition that will be offered will include:
- GCSE English and Maths exams re-sit preparation
- Bespoke subject support/catch up in small groups
- Academic skills support and development
These sessions will be tailored to meet the needs of the identified students and will be delivered:
- face to face
- online
- through a blended learning model

Our commitment
The College is committed to ensuring the tuition fund is used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16 to 19 tuition fund by:
- producing this statement setting out how the fund will be used to support the most disadvantaged students
- publishing this guidance on the school website
- record the use of the fund including reference to the individual students that receive the support, the needs of those students, the number of hours of tuition delivered, and retain the necessary evidence of the tuition provided
- deliver the extra tuition and spend the allocated funds in the academic year 2021/22
- notify the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) of any underspend from the Fund for it to be reclaimed
